Need serious muscle? Look no further than BMW X5. It was the quickest accelerating (30-60mph) AND stopped the shortest while hitched in the whole test! But speed isn’t everything – it’s incredibly stable and secure too.
Plus it offers luxurious spacious boot, gorgeous interior, loads of room front and back. Sadly no 7-seats, but it’s pure premium tow-power.
5.Best Electric Tow Car (up to 1200kg): Škoda Enyaq L&K
This category debuts for EVs with lower towing capacities. The Enyaq L&K’s substantial battery weight contributes to “superb stability” with a small Swift caravan. The lane change test was notably uneventful – precise and controlled.
As a daily driver, it’s comfortable, nimble (despite ~2-ton weight), and offers strong performance. Crucially, in L&K spec, it comes in under £40,000, avoiding the expensive car tax surcharge, making it exceptional value.
6.Best Electric Tow Car (Large): Kia EV9
Reigning as the favourite large EV tow car, the EV9 offers superb high-speed security and control. It felt “fantastic” in the lane change test at all speeds. Four-wheel drive ensures effortless hill starts and confidence in wet weather. While large, good visibility aids manoeuvring.
Its standout feature is genuine seven-seat practicality with generous space in all three rows and a huge boot when the third row is folded. With this EV, comfort is a priority over outright sportiness.
7.If Money’s Truly No Object? The Range Rover Sport P460e PHEV
Got the budget? This is pure towing luxury. Over 500bhp combined means effortless power. keeps even big ‘vans totally controlled in emergencies or cruising. The PHEV gives you ~70 miles electric range (less when towing, obviously), but this is the pinnacle if cost isn’t a factor.
